Before 1983 it was just another piece of beautiful oceanfront property alongside the Los Cabos corridor, just 11 kilometers from Cabo San Lucas. The Bud Parr family, pioneers of Cabo, once owned the land. This was the second project created by Don Koll in joint ownership with Koll International and ICA, one of Mexicos largest and most successful developers. Cabo Del Sol is a master planned development with two hotels: the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar and the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos. The master plan calls for up to 54 holes total, based on water availability, as it takes 800,000 to 1,000.000 gallons of water a day to maintain these world class courses. The Cabo Del Sol Golf Course opened in May of 1994, it has played host to the Senior Slam in 1995 and 1998. Los Cabos has some of the best golf courses in the world: perfect climate, breathtaking scenery, professional maintenance, and direct access to the worlds airports just a few short hours away. At least four more courses are in some stage of planning just like our brave souls back a few decades ago keep on following your dreams guys. In 1982, Eduardo Sanchez Navarro, heir to the Corona Beer family, set his sites on over 3,000 acres between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. At the time, there were 400 hotel rooms in all of Los Cabos, less than one-third of them considered first class. This sloping land full of cactus and scrub brush, along with continuous views of the ocean, is now the master planned area called Cabo Real Beach and Golf Resort. Today it is home to seven deluxe hotels with over 1,000 rooms and two more international hotels in planning stages. In addition there are two world-class championship golf courses. The success of Cabo Real brought on the opening of the spectacular Eldorado Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, in 1999. Six holes hug the ocean and a carefully placed driving range has inspiring views of whales watching you from the Sea of Cortes. Residents have already embraced the course as one of their favorites. |
